ThisstudyistoprepareporousscaffoldsbyusingvaneextruderandevaluatethefeasibilityofapreparationmethodofcombiningparticulateleachingandsupercriticalC02foamingtechniquesforthepreparationofhighlyinterconnectedthree-dimensionalpolymericporousscaffolds.Inthefirststepofthistechnique,polyvinylalcohol(PVOH)actingasporeagentwascompositewithpolylacticacid(PLA)byusingvaneextruder.Toformco-continuousmorphology,thevolumeratioofPVOHwaskeptabove50%,thenwatersolublepolymerPVOHwasextracted.Themaximumporosityisupt070%,yettheporesizeisdifficulttocontrol.Amountofsodiumchloridesaltwasaddedactedassecondaryporeagent,whichiseasytocontrolporesize.Inthisstudy,twokindsofsaltparticlesizerangewereused,38一75ymand75~150ym.TheporesizeinthescaffoldsiscontrolledbysaltparticulatesandinterconnectivityisachievedbythewatersolublePVOH.Scanningelectronmicroscopyandthermogravimetricanalyzerwereinvestigatedtheeffectofsaltparticlessizeonmixinguniformityandporemorphology.Theresultsindicatedthatsmallerparticlesizeisadvantagetoformhighlyinterconnectedporesanduniformdistribution.Inordertoincreasetheporosity,supercriticalC02foamingwasintroduced.Thepreparedscaffoldshaverelativelyhomogeneousporestructureandtheporositycanbeupt085%.
