ThephotocatalyticinactivationofpathogenicbacteriainsalinemediawithaternaryAg/Si02/Ti02nanotubearraysfilmwasinvestigated,andthecontrolexperimentalwasperformedinthedarkforcomparison.Thecatalystwassynthesizedbyafaciletwo-stepmethodandfoundtobeeffectiveforthedisinfectionofEscherichiacoli,aGram-negativebacterium,andStaphylococcusaureus,aGram-positivebacteriumundervisiblelight(A>420nm)irradiation.Thevisible-light-driven(VLD)Ag/Si02/Ti02nanotubearraysexhibitedmuchsuperiortootherreferencephotocatalystssuchasTi02,Si02/Ti02andAg/Ti02.Moreover,theroleofhydroxylradicalsformedin0.9%salinemediaundervisiblelightirradiationwasinvestigated.ItwasfoundthattheconcentrationofhydroxylradicalsincreasedintheorderofTi02determinationofpotassiumion(K+)leakagefromthekilledbacteria.ThisstudyprovidedapotentialeffectiveVLDphotocatalysttodisinfectthebacterialcellsinthesalinewater.Thevisible-lightphotocatalyticmechanismofAg/Si02/Ti02nanotubearraysandfactorscontributingtoitshighphotostabilityin0.9%salinewaterwereproposed.
